ANTI CANCER

Cancer is a group of diseases involving abnormal cell growth with the potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body. Not all tumors are cancerous; symptoms include benign tumors do not spread to other parts of the body.P's symptoms include and a lump, abnormal bleeding, prolonged cough, unexplained weight lossand a change inbowel movements. While these symptoms may indicate cancer, they may have other causes.Over 100 cancers affect humans.

Tobacco use is the cause of about 22% of cancer deaths. Another 10% is due to obesity, poor diet, lack of physical activity and drinking alcohol.Other factors include certain infections, exposure to ionizing radiation and environmental pollutants. In the developing world, nearly 20% of cancers are due to infections such ashepatitis B, the genes of hepatitis C and human papilloma virus(HPV).These factors act, at least partly, by the genes of a cell.Typically many genetic changes are required before cancer develops.Approximately 5–10% of cancers are due to inherited genetic defects from a person's parents.Cancer can be detected by certain signs and symptoms or screening tests. It is then typically further investigated by medical imaging and confirmed by biopsy.

Many cancers can be prevented by not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, not drinking too muchalcohol, eating plenty of vegetables, fruits and whole grains, vaccinationagainst certain infectious diseases, not eating too much processed and red meat, and avoiding too much sunlight exposure.

Capecitabine is used

Treating certain types of breast, colon, or colorectal cancer in some patients. It may be used alone or with other medicines in some cases.

Do NOT use capecitabine if:
  • you are allergic to any ingredient in capecitabine or to 5-fluorouracil
  • you have severe kidney problems or you have been told that you lack the enzyme dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD)

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using capecitabine:

Some medical conditions may interact with capecitabine. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

  • if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
  • if you are taking any prescription (particularly blood thinners) or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement (vitamin E, aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen)

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with capecitabine. Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

  • Leucovorin because the risk of severe intestinal problems, diarrhea, and dehydration may be increased
  • Hydantoins (eg, phenytoin) because their side effects may be increased by capecitabine

This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if capecitabine may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

How to use capecitabine:

Use capecitabine as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

  • Take capecitabine with food or within 30 minutes after a meal.
  • Swallow capecitabine whole with water. Do not break, crush, or chew before swallowing.

Why is this medication prescribed?

Bicalutamide is used with another medication (gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists; such as leuprolide or goserelin) to treat metastatic prostate cancer (cancer that started in the prostate and has spread to other parts of the body). Bicalutamide is in a class of medications called nonsteroidal antiandrogens. It works by blocking the effect of androgen (a male hormone), to stop the growth and spread of cancer cells.

How should this medicine be used?

Bicalutamide comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It is usually taken with or without food once a day, either in the morning or evening. Take bicalutamide at around the same time every day. You should begin taking bicalutamide on the same day you begin injecting the luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take bicalutamide exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

Bicalutamide along with the luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone may help stop the growth and spread of cancer cells but does not cure prostate cancer. Continue to take both bicalutamide and the luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone even if you feel better. Do not stop taking these medications without talking to your doctor.

Other uses for this medicine

This medication may be prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
